Chinese Picture Book Close Reading utilizes a selection of world-class picture books and renowned children's literature to inspire children's interest in culture and language through interactive exploratory learning. It aims to cultivate reading habits, enhance reading, thinking and expressive skills, and guide children to freely explore the world of culture and literature. The program promotes critical thinking, creative expression, and lifelong reading habits.
Suitable for students K-5.

10 sessions (1 hr/session/week)

No previous knowledge of Chinese required.
不需要中文基础。
All reading materials are provided.

Topics Covered 内容涵盖
Students will use picture books with the following themes based on grade level:
Health: Emotional management, habit development, healthy growth, and safety learning
Social: Friendships, family warmth, joyful childhood, and social adaptation
Language: Fables, fairy tales, rhythmic poetry, classic literature, and traditional culture
Science: Astronomy, animals and plants, human-nature interaction, and numeric cognition
Art: Aesthetic appreciation, artistic education, poetic learning, and theatrical performance
Culture: Festive customs, culinary traditions, traditional crafts, and intangible cultural heritage

Our Instructor 教师介绍
Ms. Rui Li
Ms. Rui Li is a seasoned Mandarin education specialist with extensive experience, particularly in IB inquiry-based teaching methodologies. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, along with teaching certificates. With over a decade of teaching experience in both the United States and Singapore, Ms. Li has specialized in teaching Mandarin to overseas Chinese children and non-native learners, covering students from Pre-K to Grade 9.
During her tenure as a bilingual primary teacher at EtonHouse International School in Singapore, Ms. Li shared her inquiry-based teaching practices at international Chinese education conferences. Ms. Li excels in sparking student interest through picture book reading and thematic inquiry activities. She integrates games and interactive approaches into her lessons, tailoring her teaching to meet the specific needs of each student and fostering comprehensive skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Currently, Ms. Li is the founder of Readtopia, where she is dedicated to high-quality Mandarin education and professional support to overseas Chinese families and non-native learners.
李锐老师是一位具有丰富经验的中文教育专家，尤其擅长IB体系下的探究式教学。她拥有新加坡南洋理工大学教育学硕士学位，并持有普通话等级证书和教师资格证书。李老师在美国和新加坡的多所教育机构积累了逾十年的教学经验，尤其专注于海外华人子女和非华裔学生的中文学习，从学前班（Pre-K）到九年级（G9）均有教学经验。
李老师在新加坡伊顿(EtonHouse)国际学校担任小学双语教师期间，深入参与了IB PYP课程的设计与实践，多次受邀在国际中文教育会议上分享她基于探究式教学法的实践经验。她善于通过绘本阅读和主题探究活动激发学生的学习兴趣，并结合游戏化的互动课堂，根据学生的学习兴趣量身打造课程，帮助学生构建中文听、说、读、写的全面能力。
目前，李老师是阅乐园(Readtopia)的创始人，她热衷于推广高质量的中文教学，为海外的华人家庭和非华裔学生提供专业支持。
